Taming brain inflammation
A common factor in many brain disorders, including brain fog, ADHD, ADD, anxiety, depression, memory loss, is brain inflammation.
Brain inflammation doesn’t hurt
You can’t feel brain inflammation the way you can feel an inflamed finger from a splinter. The most common symptom of brain inflammation is brain fog, but as it accelerates brain degeneration and impairs function, many neuro-related symptoms can manifest.
Brain inflammation is often caused by the same things that cause gut inflammation: gluten, food intolerances, sugary, high-carb diets, chronic stress, hypothyroidis, Hashimoto’s, and poor diet.
Leaky gut equals leaky brain
Basically when someone has intestinal permeability, or “leaky gut” brought on my inflammation, they also have a leaky blood-brain barrier. This means the lining that protects the brain has become porous and dangerous particles can get into the brain, triggering inflammation.
Gluten is a common trigger
The most important first step is to figure out what is causing brain inflammation. Gluten is a very common cause. Other times it is metabolic disorders. Once we have addressed that, we need to set about to taming the inflammation.
Brain inflammation has no off switch
The brain’s immune system is different than the body’s. The body’s immune system has the ability to turn on and off, whereas the brain’s immune system does not have an off-switch. This means unmitigated inflammation destroys plenty of brain tissue.
How to quench runaway brain inflammation
In my office I use products developed by Dr. Datis Kharrazian to quench brain inflammation along with addressing the root cause. One of the most powerful is a product he formulated for Apex Energetics called NeuroFlam. NeuroFlam contains a number of botanicals that have been shown repeatedly in studies to quench the brain’s runaway inflammation. So far they have not been able to develop pharmaceuticals to match the power of these botanicals.
Glutathione is our most powerful antioxidant and Oxicell is a way to really boost glutathione levels and also quench inflammation. However in a stressed system levels can become quickly depleted, even if you supplement.
Glutathione recycles through different forms, “taking the bullet” to protect your body’s cells. In other words when free radicals go to destroy body tissue, glutathione will absorb the hit instead, sparing tissue and minimizing destruction. It then gets recycled so it is ready for action again.
Dr. Kharrazian formulated a product called Glutathione Recycler by Apex Energetics that not only boosts glutathione levels, but also keep levels of glutathione in the body and brain high through recycling. Together with Oxicell these products can powerfully boost your brain’s ability to tame inflammation and protect vital brain tissue.
Nitric oxide modulation
Another component to brain inflammation is nitric oxide modulation. Nitric oxide is a compound in the body that plays a role in immune function. We have two beneficial forms of nitric oxide called endothelial nitric oxide (eNOS) and neuronal nitric oxide (nNOS) that help promote blood flow, protect tissue, and support brain and nerve health.
A destructive form of nitric oxide called inducible nitric oxide (iNOS) plays a role in inflammation and tissue damage during an autoimmune attack.
Through examining the research and clinical experimentation Dr. Kharrazian has figured out how to support the beneficial forms of nitric oxide while dampening the dangerous form.
Why arginine is risky
Many people are familiar with arginine, which boosts nitric oxide across the board (bodybuilders like it for increased blood flow to their muscles). However arginine is risky as it also may promote the pro-inflammatory iNOS.
Instead we use an emulsified liquid called Nitric Balance. It contains compounds that the scientific literature has shown boost blood flow to the brain, tame inflammation, and help heal damaged tissue by boosting the good nitric oxide forms while inhibiting the bad.
I have personally seen dramatic turn-arounds in my neuro patients with these new additions to my San Diego practice, as have other practitioners. They are also appropriate for many hypersensitive people who can’t tolerate most supplements.
Glutathione recycling and nitric oxide modulation are two powerful new ways to modulate out-of-control brain inflammation and bring symptom relief from many common neurological problems today.
